How to record a Teams meeting (or Teams call) as organizer

  1. Start or join the meeting.
  2. Click More (…) in the meeting controls.
  3. Select Record and transcribe › Start recording.
  4. Everyone in the meeting is notified that recording has started.
  5. To stop, go to More (…) › Record and transcribe › Stop recording, or it ends automatically when the meeting ends.
  6. The recording processes, appears in the meeting chat, and saves to OneDrive or SharePoint.

Cloud recording needs an eligible Microsoft 365 license, and your admin can turn recording on or off for the organization.

How to record a Teams meeting as a participant

By default, only the organizer, co-organizers, and presenters can record. If you’re an attendee, the record option won’t appear. Ask the organizer to record, or to make you a presenter, or use your device’s built-in screen recorder. Teams notifies everyone when recording starts, so recording secretly isn’t possible, and in many regions consent is legally required.

The steps are similar if you need to record a Zoom meeting or a Google Meet.

How to record a Teams meeting on iPhone, Android, or Mac

On the Teams mobile app (iPhone or Android), tap More (…) › Record, if you have recording permission. On Mac, recording works the same as on Windows in the Teams desktop app.

Where do Teams recordings go? (find, save, and download)

  • Non-channel meetings: the recording saves to the organizer’s OneDrive, in a Recordings folder.
  • Channel meetings: it saves to that channel’s SharePoint site.
  • To find a recording: open the meeting chat after the meeting, or go to OneDrive or SharePoint.
  • To download: open the recording in the chat or in OneDrive/SharePoint and click Download.

How to turn a Teams recording into a video worth sharing

A raw Teams recording is fine for the archive, but it’s long, full of dead air, and no one rewatches it. When you need to actually share the call, whether as a demo, an onboarding video, or a recap, this is where Velo comes in:

  1. Upload the Teams MP4 to Velo.
  2. Velo writes a fresh script and rebuilds it into a polished, narrated video that’s trimmed, with auto-zoom on what matters.
  3. Need a change? Fix the script and regenerate. No re-recording.
  4. One click turns the same recording into a written doc (PDF or Markdown) for your help center or notes.

You record the call once. Velo makes it worth sending.

Why can’t I record my Teams meeting?

  • The record option is missing or greyed out. Only the organizer, co-organizers, and presenters can record, and it needs a paid Microsoft 365 license plus an admin policy that allows it. Ask the organizer to record or to make you a presenter.
  • The recording is not in the chat. It processes after the meeting ends. Check the meeting chat, or open OneDrive for regular meetings or the channel’s SharePoint for channel meetings.
  • The recording disappeared. Teams recordings expire after 120 days by default. Download anything you want to keep.
  • There is no sound. Make sure your microphone and system audio are on before recording.
